This talk will cover the basics of film photography and is aimed at the "comfortable" digital photographer who has little/no experience working with film.

We will cover the following:-

  • Film vs Digital – why would you?
  • What cameras to look for, and where to find them (as well as their manuals!).
  • Compacts, Folders, SLRs, Rangefinders &TLRs – What’s the difference?
  • Lenses & lens mounts – mysteries debunked
  • Film & its properties – colour vs slide vs black & white.
  • Developing at home vs labs
  • Scanning, printing & resolution (no wet printing - sorry!)
  • Film sizes, from 35mm through to medium format (no large format – sorry!)
  • Exposure – getting the right exposure with or without light meters
  • Manual focus – tips & techniques
